Update : Well sad to say, Archie has not settled at all in his new home since his arrival in late December.  It’s clear he is not going to settle and is very unhappy at losing his home of many years….  He ignores the company of the other dog in the house who wants to be friends so badly and has now almost relegated her to the bedroom as she seems to be more and more reluctant to approach him and this is not fair – it’s her house and Archie was rescued as a friend and companion.  I have been in close contact with his adopter and everything I hear is telling me that Archie is unhappy and very insecure despite all the hours and care that he is being shown and given – his adopter is not inexperienced and her girl came off the streets of Romania and was frightened of the world when she first arrived.  A year down the line she is a much loved dog who has made giant steps to overcome her fears with my friend’s help…so it’s natural that we cannot allow her to be afraid in her own home, the first she has ever known and that took all her courage to adapt to.

So, we have learnt from Archie that he is not interested in other dogs having been an only dog all his life.  He’s not huge on being groomed but ok to being rubbed down with a towel.  Information from his owners regarding the settling-in problems have not shed any particular light on his behaviour….they do not want him back anyway.  I am hoping that maybe Springer spaniel people might have feel able to take this lad on – WE DO NOT WANT HIM PASSED FROM PILLAR TO POST!  My friend will hang on to Archie as long as she can and for as long as her other dog can cope….but Archie needs to find a home that is going to suit him, possibly as back to being an only dog, a good companion certainly who loves walks and is obedient and has manners.    He certainly does not relate particularly to women but he is good in every other way …..just not happy 😦

Here is all you need to know about Archie, written by his owner :

Archie needs a loving home

Sadly we are searching for a loving home for our Archie. Due to our relocation we cannot bring him with us.

He is a 9 year old Springer spaniel. He is neutered, micro-chipped and fully up to date with his vaccinations. He is also regularly wormed and treated for fleas and ticks. He is very fit and has no health issues. He is house trained.

He gets along superbly with cats, as well as chickens and ducks. He’s never seen a horse before but is very good around cows. He is well trained, so if told to “stay”, he will not bother a horse or anything else. He will also stay in one place if told to do so until you command him to move again.

He walks on the leash, but also “heels” on command when walking freely. He “sits” and “waits for his food (he does the cutest whimper in anticipation).

He is liver and white and weighs about 22kg. so not a very big fella. He LOVES his walks.

Please get in touch with me, Evelyn, on 05 65 69 12 26  (taking care to leave me a contact message and number if I am unable to take your call immediately) or email me at doglinks.fr@gmail.com if you can help Archie – all emails replied to daily.

Archie has not coped with being given up by his family of 9 years – but I am hopeful the home where he WILL settle, is out there waiting for him.  Perhaps he should be an only dog again?  Thank you.

  1. I am so fed up with people saying that they cannot relocate with their beloved dog. Why? You wouldn’t leave your child behind so why leave the dog? It’s just a “get-out clause”. You should be ashamed. A dog is a valued member of the family, or at least it should be, and you are abandoning it! I really hope this gorgeous boy find an appreciative family who shows him the respect he deserves. It’s all too common with the Brits. It drives me mad. We don’t want to hear your sob stories. Selfish!

  2. Oh well done Evelyn I am so happy for Archie…He is near me so if I can help in any way please message me I will be very pleased to do something in return for all the help you have given me in sharing dogs….I think the person who has adopted is going to be very lucky indded…this is a very special boy.
